Myth or fact? When you meditate, you’re not supposed to have any thoughts in your head.

Answer: MYTH!

Not having thoughts in your head is virtually impossible, because as soon as you notice you’re not having thoughts, you have thoughts about not having thoughts! Instead of eliminating all thoughts, the goal is to focus on your breathing while letting thoughts float through your head without judgment or attention. Let’s say you’re meditating and notice that you’re thinking about what to have for dinner tonight, you simply say to yourself: “There’s a thought. Interesting,” and return your focus to your breath. It gets a lot easier with practice – but you can still reduce stress and get other meditation-related results in the meantime. Have you tried meditating before?
